Auditions: Come join the DC Youth Orchestra Program!

The DC Youth Orchestra Program has a place for all students with any level of experience. All students who have prior experience with their instrument will be auditioned and assigned to a curriculum level of The Program. Each audition is heard and evaluated by one of our outstanding faculty and/or conductors. Beginning students are not auditioned, please see details below:

Advanced students:
Students who are targeting the most advanced levels of The Program will need to audition using the materials below. Audition materials are specific and listed by instrument.
Auditions for the Youth Orchestra for the 2008-09 Season and the Summer Tour 2009 are scheduled for August 23, 2008 and September 6, 2008.

2008-09 Auditions will take place at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and at the Katzen Performing Arts Center on American University Campus.

Audition Materials (Advanced levels only)

Intermediate students:
Students who are not targeting participation in the most advanced levels of The Program are asked to be prepared with their current lesson materials or current school orchestra/band materials to play for faculty. Generally, students with any experience on their instrument will need to participate in a placement audition. The purpose of the audition is to determine the most appropriate class and ensemble for the student and all students are accepted into The Program.

Beginning students:
There is no need for beginning students to audition, simply sign up for the musical instrument of choice (please see age restrictions) and register for classes at “level A.”
