JazzDC Youth Ensemble
A collaborative youth music program.
The DC Youth Orchestra, in partnership wit the DC Jazz Festival and the Sitar Arts Center, started the JazzDC Youth Ensemble in the Fall of 2024 to offer intermediate-to-advanced student musicians ages 12-18 training in jazz improvisation, sight-reading, and ensemble performance.
Auditions for the JazzDC Ensemble will be held on September 16 and September 30, 2026 from 7:00-9:00pm at the Sitar Arts Center at 1700 Kalorama Rd NW #101.
Program Goals and Information:
The JazzDC Ensemble will be under the direction of Elijah Jamal Balbed and begins in October.
1. Focus on core jazz fundamentals like swing feel, ear training, and small/large group interaction.
2. Connect students directly with professional artist-mentors and educators from the D.C. jazz community.
3. Provide regular seasonal performance showcases alongside other DCYOP divisions
4. Standard tuition is $600 per school year, with financial aid and tuition assistance available for eligible families.
The JazzDC Ensemble is a partnership between the DC Youth Orchestra Program, DC Jazz Fest, and the Sitar Arts Center.
